The 5th Hamble Classics Regatta at the Royal Southern Yacht Club on 21st-23rd August has opened for 'pre-entries' in anticipation of a go-ahead if the recent easing of restrictions is being successful. The event's organiser Jonty Sherwill commented: "Together with the Royal Southern we are monitoring revisions to the COVID-19 guidance and in response to enquiries from yacht owners the Club has opened its online entry system at Hamble Classics 2020
The Hamble Classics Regatta welcomes all styles of classic yachts, International Metre classes, Classic Racers, Cruisers and Dayboats, Old Gaffers, Classic One-Designs and Spirit of Tradition yachts. The event was founded by Jonty Sherwill and Vicki Weston and has attracted up to 75 entries each year since 2016 when first hosted at the Royal Southern. Sir Robin Knox-Johnston entered his newly refitted Suhaili and commented “It is just what yachting should be about”.
All pre-1971 traditional wooden yachts and GRP versions of the same type are welcome but please refer to Section 3 of the Notice of Race for full details - https://drive.google.com/file/.... For yachts always produced in GRP and modern classics please contact the sailing office before entering.
The online entry system is open now for pre-entry at https://yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eid=13039 . Full entry with payment will commence on July 10th. Entry by email is also available by contacting the sailing office at: sailing@royal-southern.co.uk.
Please be aware that the Notice of Race may be amended in response to changes in the Government and RYA Guidelines. If the event is cancelled before it commences a full refund of entry fee will be offered to entrants.
Royal Southern members and others wishing to be involved in race management afloat and ashore or help organise social events are very welcome and should contact the sailing office.
