Tall Ships Races 2020 postponeed to 2021

Tall Ships Races International Ltd and the Host Ports of the Tall Ships Races 2020 Announce the Postponement of The Tall Ships Races 2020 to 2021

As organisers of the Tall Ships Races 2020, Tall Ships Races International Ltd, a subsidiary of Sail Training International, and our Host Port partners are committed to providing safe events for trainees, staff, volunteers, vessel operators, partners and visitors alike.

Following extensive discussions with our Host Port partners in Lisbon, Cadiz, A Coruna and Dunkirk, the Tall Ships fleet and all relevant bodies over the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID 19) pandemic, the decision has been made to postpone The Tall Ships Races 2020 until 2021.

The postponed Tall Ship Races 2020 will take place next year after the Tall Ship Races 2021, which is taking place in the Baltic Sea from 27th June to 3rd August.  The event will start in Dunkirk from 12 to 15 August 2021 and follow a revised race course to A Coruna, from 26 to 29 August, Lisbon, from 2 to 5 September, and Cadiz, from 9 to 12 September.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all parties for their hard work in ensuring that The Tall Ships Races 2020 can be delivered successfully in a safe manner for all those involved. Without their continued efforts, it would be impossible to deliver the world famous Tall Ships Races in the way that we do.

“The decision to postpone The Tall Ships Races 2020 has been made with great sadness, but the safety of visitors, participants and everyone involved in putting on the event remains our paramount concern at all times.

“We would like to extend our thanks to all parties for the tireless work they have already put into preparations for this event. Without the support of Host Ports, the Tall Ships fleet, trainees, sponsors and the efforts of volunteers, it would be impossible to stage our amazing events in the way that we do.”
Ross MacDonald Chairman, Tall Ships Races International Ltd

We think now more than ever, our values of international friendship and understanding are a symbol of a better society. Helping to transform the lives of young people, regardless of nationality, culture, religion, gender or social background, through the sail training experience.

Ever since the first Tall Ships Race in 1956, we are continually motivated and inspired by the difference participating in a sail training experience makes to young people’s lives. We see young people from all environments, grow in confidence, rise to challenges, overcome fears, make lifelong friends and enjoy the adventure of a lifetime. We eagerly look forward to a time when this much needed work around the world can resume safely.

The thoughts of everyone at Tall Ships Races International Ltd and the organising parties of Lisbon, Cadiz, A Coruna and Dunkirk are with everyone affected by Coronavirus (COVID 19) in these difficult times.
