Platoon Aviation leads Sled by just 11 points, while the battle for the remaining championship podium positions also remains wide open ahead of the final event of the season.
The 2026 52 SUPER SERIES will reach its conclusion at Valencia Sailing Week, with five days of racing set to determine the overall season champion.
After winning the Royal Cup in Puerto Calero, German-flagged Platoon Aviation arrives in Valencia at the top of the standings with 171 points. The 2023 champions hold an 11-point advantage over Sled, this year’s world champions and winners of the opening two regattas of the season.
Platoon owner-driver Harm Müller-Spreer said: “We feel good. I feel we can win. That is the absolute objective we started the season with.”
Sled remains firmly in contention and will be looking to recover the points lost through a technical failure at the previous event. Sled project manager Don Cowie said the team would “go out swinging” and give everything in its attempt to win the season title.
The battle for the remaining podium positions is equally close. Italian team Alkedo Cetilar currently occupies third place, 11 points ahead of France’s Paprec. Swedish newcomer Trinity Racing is only one point behind Paprec and remains in contention for a championship podium in its first season.
A record fleet of 16 teams representing 11 nations will compete off Valencia’s Malvarrosa Beach. The venue can produce a wide range of conditions, increasing the prospect of an unpredictable conclusion in which the championship could remain undecided until the final race.
