52 SUPER SERIES CONCLUDES AT THE PUERTO CALERO LANZAROTE 52 SUPER SERIES ROYAL CUP
Platoon Aviation win Royal Cup for a fourth time as Brazil’s Crioula secure dream second place.
Harm Müller-Spreer’s German-flagged Platoon Aviation secured the Puerto Calero Lanzarote 52 SUPER SERIES Royal Cup with a race to spare, winning the prestigious trophy for a record fourth time. Eduardo and Renato Plass and their tightly knit Crioula team from Brazil’s Veleiros do Sul Yacht Club claimed a dream second place, while Ergin Imre’s Turkish-flagged Provezza completed the podium.
It is Platoon Aviation’s first regatta victory since September 2024 in Valencia, where they last lifted the Royal Cup. After struggling at times for speed and consistency with their current boat, the German team produced an impressive return to form in Puerto Calero, winning three races and finishing with 34 points—25 points clear of Crioula.
Müller-Spreer, who steers the boat, said the victory felt particularly special and praised the work undertaken by the team to improve its performance. Platoon Aviation now leads the overall 2026 52 SUPER SERIES standings by 11 points ahead of Takashi Okura’s Sled going into the fifth and final regatta of the season in Valencia in early October.
Behind the runaway winners, the battle for the remaining podium places went down to the final race. Crioula overcame two difficult starts on the last day, recovering through the fleet to finish fourth in the finale and secure second overall by a single point from Provezza.
The core of the Brazilian crew has sailed together for more than 15 years, with three-time Olympian Samuel Albrecht calling tactics. Co-owner Renato Plass credited the result to the team’s refusal to give up and their extensive experience racing together in strong-wind conditions.
Provezza had entered the final race in second place but slipped to third overall after finishing 12th. Sled, the 2026 world champions and winners of the season’s opening two regattas, finished fifth in Puerto Calero following a mixed week that included a technical breakdown. Despite losing their championship lead, Sled remain firmly in contention ahead of the season finale.
