With North Sails Cowes Week drawing to a close, sailors looking for one more chance to race, reconnect and enjoy the camaraderie of Cowes have the perfect opportunity with the RORC Pursuit Race on Saturday 19 September.
Introduced during the RORC Centenary, the Pursuit Race proved so popular that it has now earned a regular place in the Club’s programme. The format gives boats across the IRC rating range the opportunity to race directly against one another, with the lower-rated yachts starting first and the faster boats setting off in pursuit.
For established RORC crews, it is an opportunity to bring the team together again and enjoy another competitive day on the Solent. For sailors who have been catching up with old friends and making new ones during North Sails Cowes Week, it offers the perfect reason to return to Cowes and continue those friendships both on and off the water.
New teams looking to experience RORC racing for the first time will be made especially welcome. As with every RORC race, safety remains the first priority, but there is no better way to gain a taste of the Club’s racing than through the accessible and exciting pursuit format.
The action will continue ashore at the RORC Cowes Clubhouse, where the race will be followed by the End of Season Prize Giving. Trophies will be presented to the season’s leading crews, together with RORC medallions for competitors who have earned them during the year but have not yet received them.
The prize-giving is always a special occasion, bringing together sailors, families, members and supporters in the relaxed atmosphere of the clubhouse. It is a chance to celebrate the season, recognise outstanding performances and share stories from another year of RORC racing.
Whether you are a seasoned offshore campaigner, a Cowes Week competitor looking for one more race, or a new team keen to discover what RORC racing is all about, the Pursuit Race promises a welcoming day on the water and a memorable evening ashore.
