The world's leading grand prix monohull circuit heads to Lanzarote this week as the 52 SUPER SERIES arrives in the Canary Islands for the Marina Rubicón Lanzarote 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week. Thirteen teams from 11 nations will compete in the third event of the 2026 season, with racing taking place in the waters between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, where the island's famous trade winds are expected to provide fast, physical and spectacular racing.
Fresh from winning the Rolex TP52 World Championship in Porto Cervo, Takashi Okura's SLED team arrives in Lanzarote as the championship leader and the crew to beat. The reigning world champions are chasing a fourth consecutive regatta victory, although the exceptionally competitive fleet means there is little margin for error, with several teams capable of challenging for the podium in what is widely regarded as one of the closest and highest-quality one-design sailing circuits in the world.
Lanzarote presents an entirely new venue for the championship and is expected to produce very different conditions from the opening regattas of the season. Stronger winds and larger Atlantic swells are likely to favour experienced crews such as Germany's Platoon Aviation, France's Paprec, Turkey's Provezza and the Netherlands' No Way Back, while local weather conditions are expected to test both crews and equipment throughout the week.
