SailGP’s highly-anticipated American double header is approaching - the first time the league has staged events on consecutive weekends. First, we'll touch down in Los Angeles on March 15-16, before returning to the fan favorite location of San Francisco for the fifth time on March 22-23.
This means there are two chances for Taylor Canfield’s United States team to secure hometown glory and the team ‘is not going to disappoint’ when racing begins, according to Canfield.

Canfield looks ahead to L.A. and San Francisco: “I know we’re not going to disappoint”
United States driver Taylor Canfield has his eyes on the season’s upcoming American double header - with back to back events unfolding in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
This is the first time SailGP has staged events on consecutive weekends, creating a new logistical challenge for the league, while the U.S. team will be under pressure to perform at consecutive home events.
United States driver Taylor Canfield talks to the press
Los Angeles, which takes place on March 15-16, will be the team’s first of three chances to defend home waters this season. The team will also have the chance to win at home in San Francisco on March 22-23 and New York later in the season.
Looking ahead, Canfield said the team was ‘really excited’ for the two events. Racing at home, he said, would be an advantage when the fleet hits the water.
“It’s nice to have the lack of travel on our side - keeping those hours down and not having jet lag is always a benefit for the team,” he said.
He added that there’s ‘nothing like racing in front of your home fans, family and friends’. “L.A. and San Fran have both proven to be awesome venues, so we’re excited to get this show on the road and get back to the U.S.”
The team’s home return comes after a disappointing event in Sydney, which saw the U.S. unable to compete after capsizing and sustaining damage while being towed to the race area.
The damage caused by the capsize meant the team was handed an eight point deduction to its season score, leaving the team in 11th overall on the 2025 Season leaderboard with 0 points heading into L.A.
Canfield said the team will be raring to go when racing resumes and looking to chalk up as many points as possible.
“We’re really looking to get back out on the water after our incident in Sydney, so I can guarantee that we’re going to bring some good energy and push hard.”
He added that the team ‘isn’t sleeping right now’. “They’re up and making sure that we’re getting better even when we’re not out sailing - we’re looking forward and I know we’re not going to disappoint.”
While both Los Angeles and San Francisco have ‘both proven to be awesome’ locations, Canfield highlighted the venues’ stark differences in terms of racecourse size, conditions and on shore set up.
LA, he said, ‘is one of the smaller racetracks on the circuit’ and will be ‘really crowded with 12 boats’. Conditions-wise, it can get ‘a little bit of everything this time of year’, but usually has ‘pretty good breeze’. He also highlighted the set up on shore - ‘the Tech Site, Adrenaline Lounge and Grandstands are all in one place so it’s great for us’.
The location of San Francisco meanwhile is ‘just so iconic’ and ‘built for’ SailGP. “There’s great breeze, a great Race Stadium, the Golden Gate Bridge and everything so close to the action - it’s about as good as it gets”.
When it comes to the U.S. team’s home town advantage, Canfield admitted the team has limited experience racing in Los Angeles so is unlikely to have an edge at this event. But Canfield, who has raced with the United States team on and off since Season 1, has raced at three previous events in San Francisco. “It’s a fun racecourse because it’s a little bit more open, you get to stretch your legs a but and we’ll be focused on the moding of the boat with the new T-Foils.”
The F50 fleet will go head to head at the Rolex Los Angeles Sail Grand Prix on March 15-16 and at the Oracle San Francisco Sail Grand Prix on March 22-23.
